Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Narrations Confirm Shared Attributes of Imam Ali and Other Infallible Imams

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Hosseini al-Shirazi stated that there is mutawatir (widely transmitted) evidence in Shiite sources confirming that all attributes possessed by Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) are also held by the remaining Infallible Imams (peace be upon them).

The remarks were delivered during the Supreme Marja’s daily scholarly session, held on Monday, the 20th of Sha‘ban 1447 AH. As in previous sessions, His Eminence addressed questions from attendees on a range of jurisprudential and theological issues.

Speaking on the status and characteristics of the Infallible Imams, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi explained that reliable and extensively transmitted proofs establish that whatever distinctions belong to the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), are likewise present in the other Imams from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).

He further clarified that all of Imam Ali’s attributes, including his divinely granted knowledge and other qualifications, are shared by the rest of the Infallible Imams.

However, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi emphasized that Imam Ali (peace be upon him) holds one unique distinction: he is superior to all the other Infallible Imams in rank and virtue.
