The daily scholarly session of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Hussaini Shirazi was held on Tuesday, 21 Rabi al-Thani 1447 AH.
As in previous sessions, His Eminence responded to questions from attendees concerning various jurisprudential issues.
Speaking about the meaning of the word “Qawwamun” mentioned in Verse 34 of Surah al-Nisa, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi explained:
“In Arabic, Qawwam refers to a person who is responsible for managing affairs and ensuring the proper administration of an individual’s or group’s matters.”
He added:
“The use of Qawwam in the Holy Qur’an indicates that men are entrusted with managing and overseeing matters related to women.”
The Supreme Marja further emphasized that this concept is not limited to Muslim societies but is also prevalent among non-Muslim communities, where in most cases men serve as the heads and managers of families, including their wives, while it is rare for women to assume this role.
