Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadeq Hosseini Shirazi, during his daily scholarly session on Tuesday, 23 Rabi al-Awwal 1447, addressed questions from attendees on various jurisprudential issues.

Responding to an inquiry on the concept of ‘uquq al-walidayn (disobedience to parents), Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated that parental disobedience — regarded as one of the religious prohibitions — is defined as abandoning one’s parents. He explained that even if a child lives under the same roof with his parents but remains estranged from them, it falls under this category.

His Eminence further stressed that disrespecting or insulting parents, even without abandoning them, is also a forbidden act in Islam.
