Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Mutual Consent Does Not Lift Prohibition on Usury

During his daily scholarly session held on Tuesday, the 15th of Dhul-Qa’dah, 1446 AH, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi addressed various jurisprudential questions posed by attendees.

In response to inquiries concerning the prohibition of riba (usury), Grand Ayatollah Shirazi unequivocally stated that all forms of usury are forbidden (haram).

He further elaborated that the mutual consent of both parties involved does not negate the prohibition of usury, emphasizing that coercion or compulsion is not a prerequisite for its unlawfulness.
