Grand Ayatollah Shirazi remarks on ruling of Wine during daily scholarly session

Another insightful daily scholarly session of Grand Ayatollah Sayed Sadiq Hosseini Shirazi was held on the ninth of Dhu al-Qadah. In this session, as in previous meetings, the Supreme Marja answered questions from attendees regarding various jurisprudential issues.

Regarding the prohibition and impurity of wine (khamr), Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated: “There is consensus that wine is both forbidden (haram) and impure (najis). In this regard, two matters should be noted: firstly, wine specifically is forbidden and impure, and secondly, any other intoxicant, even if it is not wine, is also forbidden and impure.”

He further elaborated: “In addition to this, it is also necessary to pay attention to the point that the prohibition of wine is not because it is intoxicating in its current state. Rather, because the inherent characteristic of wine is its intoxicating nature, therefore the prohibition applies to all wine in general, even a single drop of it.”

Let us now watch the insightful words of the Marja:
