Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: The Islamic reconstruction law solves crises of unemployment, poverty, and economic decline

The Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, affirmed that many of the contemporary crises facing both Islamic and non-Islamic societies—such as unemployment, poverty, health deterioration, and family breakdown—could have been resolved had the Islamic Reconstruction Law, as outlined by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), been implemented.
In a speech published as part of the “Nibras al-Ma’rifa” (Beacon of Knowledge) series issued by his office, His Eminence pointed out that unemployment, lack of self-sufficiency, the rise in crimes stemming from poverty or oppression, and the increasing rates of divorce are all direct consequences of ignoring the divine laws legislated by the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) for the dignity and well-being of humanity.
He clarified that the “great Islamic miracle” lies in the law that stipulates that anyone who revives a dead land—whether by building a house, establishing a farm, orchard, or factory—is entitled to own it. Had this law been practically implemented, many of the root causes of poverty, need, and unemployment would have been eliminated.
His Eminence asked, “Where did unemployment originate? Isn’t the reason the lack of opportunities and the closure of livelihood doors before the youth?” He stressed that applying God’s law as spoken by His noble Messenger is capable of opening these doors and unleashing the community’s potential for development and reconstruction.
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi called on Islamic governments to return to the authentic Islamic teachings in managing the affairs of the state, noting that adopting the Prophetic path and the rulings of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) guarantees both worldly and spiritual happiness, as well as social justice and human dignity.
The Grand Marja emphasized that suspending divine laws is what has led societies to their current state of crisis and fragmentation, urging a comprehensive review of the political and economic system based on the pure Muhammadan Islam.
