Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Justice and compassion are the foundation of good governance

The Supreme Religious Authority, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, has stressed the necessity of adopting a policy of justice and compassion in governing the affairs of both the nation and its people. He affirmed that this approach aligns with the governance model practiced by the Prophet Muhammad and Imam Ali (peace be upon them).
His Eminence explained that justice alone is insufficient unless coupled with compassion, comparing a policy devoid of compassion to a body without a head—an inert entity that causes harm and suffering instead of fostering reform and stability.
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi pointed out that rulers who governed in the name of Islam throughout history failed to implement this approach. Instead, injustice and corruption prevailed under the rule of the Umayyads and Abbasids, leaving Islamic history filled with oppression, tyranny, and the squandering of the nation’s wealth.
He emphasized that any glimpses of justice or freedom witnessed in certain governments were due to the influence of the compassionate policies established by the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and Imam Ali (peace be upon him) during their leadership, fostering an atmosphere of peace and security.
