Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Responding to Salaam is Obligatory in Any Language
Another daily scholarly session led by Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Hosseini al-Shirazi took place on the 19 of Rajab al-Asab in his honourable residence in Qom, where the Supreme Marja addressed attendees’ questions on various jurisprudential issues, as he has in previous meetings.
Regarding the ruling on responding to Salaam, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated that greetings are not limited to the Arabic language; any language that conveys the meaning of a greeting holds the same ruling. He emphasized that responding to greetings in any language is obligatory.
Furthermore, his Eminence noted that responding to Salaam upon entering is mandatory, while a response at farewell is not obligatory if the word “Salaam” is not included in the farewell.
