Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Discusses Mandatory, Recommended Sujood (prostration) VS. Ruku’ (bowing) in Daily Scholarly Session

Another daily scientific session was led by Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Hosseini al-Shirazi on Sunday, the 18th of Rajab, at his honourable residence. During this session, the Supreme Marja addressed various jurisprudential questions posed by attendees, similar to previous meetings.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi highlighted verse 43 of Surah Al-Baqarah, stating that Ruku’ (bowing) in prayer signifies humility, while Sujood (prostration) represents a greater level of submission.

His Eminence further noted that the Holy Quran and the traditions of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) emphasize both mandatory and recommended prostrations, but there are no verses or traditions concerning bowing.

Additionally, he stressed that some Sunni scholars have developed bowing practices for certain Quranic verses that are not referenced in the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
