Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Sometimes, similar expressions in narrations bring about different rulings
The daily scholarly meeting of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Hosseini al-Shirazi was held on Tuesday, the 15th of Jumada al-Awwal, in his honourable residence in Qom. In this session, as in previous ones, the Supreme Marja addressed the questions of the attendees regarding various jurisprudential issues.
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi discussed the differences in rulings concerning some similar expressions in narrations, stating: “Sometimes, in narrations related to a subject, an expression is used that is identical to that used for another subject; however, the rulings for these two subjects differ.”
His Eminence elaborated on this point, explaining: “For instance, the case of an individual whose prayer is not accepted because he prays at home while being a neighbor of the mosque differs from the case of someone whose prayer is not accepted due to a lack of purification. In the former, the action is deemed makruh (discouraged), while in the latter, it is considered haram (forbidden).”
He further noted: “Additionally, the expression ‘death of ignorance’ concerning someone who does not recognize their Imam is different from that regarding someone who fails to make a will.”
