Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Some Accusations Against Imam Hassan (peace be upon him) Were Fabricated by Muawiya

On Thursday, the 22nd of Rabi al-Awwal, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Hosseini al-Shirazi led his daily scholarly session, during which the Supreme Marja addressed questions from attendees regarding various jurisprudential issues.

In relation to certain accusations against Imam al-Hassan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) concerning his marriages and repeated divorces, his Eminence stated that while there is a narration in Al-Kafi, it was certainly made out of precaution (taqiya), as there are indications of taqiya present, which leads to interpreting it contrary to its apparent meaning.

He further commented on claims suggesting that people were eager to marry their daughters to Imam al-Hassan (peace be upon him), stating that such assertions are unjustified and contrary to the apparent facts. Grand Ayatullah Shirazi explained that if such a reality existed, it would have been revealed, as even an ordinary person who takes multiple wives and divorces them would become notorious for it. Therefore, if this were the case for Imam al-Hassan, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) and son of Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him, especially in light of the fact that there were many enemies around, he would certainly have been known by such a trait, which was not the case.

His Eminence emphasized that all these accusations were fabricated by Muawiya, and if any statement from the infallible Imams (peace be upon them) is reported regarding this matter, it should also be regarded as taqiya, similar to other instances where the Imams practiced taqiya.
