Grand Ayatullah Shirazi’s Annual Speech Commemorates Martyrdom of Holy Prophet Muhammad
In a poignant gathering held at his residence in Qom, Grand Ayatullah Shirazi delivered a compelling address on the occasion of the sorrowful martyrdom anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his pure family). The event, coinciding with the 28th of Safar, was attended by numerous scholarly figures and devoted believers who came together to mourn the profound loss of the Prophet.
In his speech, Grand Ayatullah Shirazi highlighted a significant moment in Islamic history, noting that for the first time, the Prophet of God referred to his Ahl al-Bayt as the oppressed. This acknowledgment underscores the struggles and tribulations of the Ahl al-Bayt throughout history.
The Supreme Marja emphasized the importance of the Holy Quran as a guiding text, urging the community to take the Prophet as a role model. He articulated that Islamic rulers must engage with the populace compassionately, fostering an environment where individuals treat one another with kindness and ethical conduct. Reflecting on the Prophet’s character, he pointed out that even those who fled from battle were met with gentleness, illustrating the Prophet’s commitment to mercy and understanding.
Grand Ayatullah Shirazi expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the organization of mourning ceremonies for Imam al-Hussein (peace be upon him) over the past two months, particularly those who contributed to the glory of the holy Arbaeen pilgrimage. He affirmed that any action reflecting reverence for Imam al-Hussein is regarded as a religious rite, reinforcing the significance of these observances in the Islamic faith.
His Eminence also addressed the challenges faced by the followers of Imam al-Hussein (peace be upon him), stating that the efforts of disbelievers to undermine the sacred rites associated with him often result in the opposite effect, strengthening the resolve of the faithful. He recalled the day of Ghadir, when the Prophet addressed both Muslims and non-Muslims, emphasizing the universal message of Islam.
Drawing attention to the Prophet’s practices, he noted that after every obligatory prayer, the Prophet would deliver a sermon, reinforcing the importance of continuous education and preaching within the community. He asserted that belief in God and the Prophet holds no true value without a corresponding belief in Imam Ali (peace be upon him), highlighting the integral role of the Prophet’s family in the faith.
Grand Ayatullah Shirazi further elaborated on the Prophet’s unique conduct during the conquest of Mecca, describing it as unparalleled in history. He emphasized that the Prophet never initiated wars; rather, Muslims engaged in conflicts solely for self-defense, a principle that remains vital in contemporary discourse.
In closing, the Grand Ayatullah urged the faithful to convey the authentic history of the Prophet to people around the world, presenting it as a model for humanity. He concluded his address with words of praise to the Almighty God, the Lord of both worlds, reinforcing the spiritual underpinnings of the gathering.
