Grand Ayatullah Shirazi Urges Global Spread of Imam al-Hussein’s Legacy
On July 5th, coinciding with the 28th of Dhul-Hajjah, Grand Ayatullah Shirazi, the Supreme Religious Authority, delivered a powerful lecture emphasizing the legacy of Imam al-Hussein, peace be upon him, ahead of the holy month of Muharram.
More details in the following report:
On Friday, Grand Ayatullah Shirazi gave his annual lecture ahead of the month of Muharram in his residence at Qom in the presence of scholarly figures and preachers.
“With the blessings of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him),” began the Grand Ayatullah, “I implore Allah (SWT) to hasten the return of our Master, Imam Al-Hujjah (AS).” He offered condolences to the Imam of the Time and the attendees for the approaching months of mourning, Muharram and Safar, which mark the solemn tragedies of Karbala and the martyrdom of Imam al-Hussein and his companions as well as the captivity of his family.
Grand Ayatullah Shirazi underscored the enduring significance of Imam al-Hussein’s legacy. His Eminence pointed out that one of the unique aspects of Imam al-Hussein (peace be upon him) is that at the time of his birth, the Messenger of Allah (SWT) invoked punishment upon those who would betray him.” This, he argued, underlines the lasting importance of supporting the Imam’s cause.
The concept of supporting Imam al-Hussein, according to Grand Ayatullah Shirazi, transcends mere rituals. “He explained that the term ‘rituals’ lacks a specific example and is defined by customary practices. Every action that demonstrates reverence and glorification of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, constitutes a sacred Husseini ritual,” he said. He cited processions, mourning practices, and even preparations for Muharram as illustrations of such rituals.
However, Grand Ayatullah Shirazi stressed the importance of these rituals extending beyond traditional practices. He emphasized that the legacy of Sayyed al-Shuhada (peace be upon him) is truly exceptional. “All sacred rites and rituals related to Imam al-Hussein should be disseminated worldwide and reach all mankind.” He expressed concern that many, particularly those in non-Islamic countries, lack access to these traditions.
The Supreme Marja placed a strong emphasis on spreading the message of Imam al-Hussein. He stated that it is incumbent upon everyone to disseminate the knowledge of the Ahlul-Bayt, peace be upon them, to all humanity. “Neglecting Imam al-Hussein, peace be upon him, invites a curse from the Messenger of God, peace be upon him and his family,” he said. He urged everyone, particularly those in Islamic countries, to actively promote these rituals.
Grand Ayatullah Shirazi’s message concluded with a call to action. He said that “both you and I must be evaluated based on our commitment to Husseini rituals.” He emphasized the importance of utilizing modern technology to spread awareness, highlighting the Arbaeen pilgrimage as an event deserving promotion through social media platforms.
