Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Qur’an has not undergone any changes
The daily scholarly meeting of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadegh al-Hosseini al-Shirazi was held on Thursday, the 23rd of Shawwal. In this session, like the previous meetings, the Marja answered the questions of the attendees about various legal issues.
On the reason why the Quran has not been changed, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi said: The reason that this Quran that we have is the original Quran and has not been changed is not because of the narration of Hafs from Asim, because that narration is not valid, but because this Qur’an has reached us in Tawatur (through numerous reports).
His Eminence further said: If this Qur’an was in a different form 50, 100 or 300 years ago than what it is now, it would have been determined by examining the different copies of the Qur’an, as this is a significant matter that would have emerged.
The Supreme Religious Authority emphasized: The Holy Qur’an was completed during the time of the Holy Prophet, and it was passed down to us from his Companions and others. When it comes to Tawatur, there is no requirement for justice, trustworthiness, and maturity, so if an account reaches un in Tawatur, it will establish knowledge and certainty.
Regarding the completion of the Holy Qur’an at the time of the Holy Prophet, the Marja said: Hadiths have been narrated from the Holy Prophet regarding the reward of reciting and reading the Holy Qur’an from cover to cover, which goes to show that the Holy Qur’an was completed during the time of the Holy Prophet.
