Grand Ayatollah Shirazi discusses Islamic rulings during daily scholarly sessions in his residence

The daily scholarly meeting of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadegh al-Hosseini al-Shirazi was held on Thursday and Friday, the 9th and 10th of Shawwal. In these sessions, as in the previous meetings, the Marja answered the questions of the attendees about various jurisprudence issues.

In relation to the ruling on the use of questionable goods and foods in the markets of cities that are mostly populated by Muslim, but are not strictly committed to Sharia, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi said: God Almighty has facilitated such matters, just like where a person does not know whether something is pure (tahir) or impure (najis), and if it is really impure, God has made it easy for us in considering it to be pure. So, God Almighty has also made Ahkam easy when it comes to Muslim markets and Muslim possession.

His Eminence continued: In these cases, it is not necessary to ensure that items are pure and halal, but if there is an assurance to the contrary, it is not permissible to use those goods, that is, if in the Muslim market we intend to buy something from a seller not committed to the Sharia, and we were sure that it was stolen or impure or non-halal, in this case, it is not permissible to buy it.

He also emphasized: Unless we achieve certainty to the contrary, there is still no problem in buying from the Muslim market, even if a person has a 60 or 70 percent suspicion of items being non-halal or impure. Because, God, the most Exalted, has made this issue easy for His servants.

Regarding the verdict of some people who say they do not accept Islam, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi said: Such statements are usually made out of anger and sometimes ignorance, and until it is clear and certain that that person has become an apostate, he/she is considered to be under the flag of Islam, and they will be subject to the rulings of Muslims.
