Report Flags 2025 as Harsh Year for Muslims in France
………..
A rights group says 2025 has been one of the most difficult years for Muslims in France, citing a sharp rise in hate crimes, discrimination and violent attacks. In a report released recently, the organisation described the period as deeply damaging, pointing to growing insecurity and a climate of hostility that has affected daily life for many Muslim communities nationwide.
The report documented several serious incidents, including racially motivated killings targeting Muslim citizens. Among the most prominent cases was the fatal stabbing of a young man during prayer inside a mosque, an attack that sparked widespread concern. The group noted that what it described as a muted official response fuelled anger and reinforced perceptions of unequal treatment under the law.
Beyond violent acts, the report highlighted what it called a persistent atmosphere of Islamophobia, marked by social exclusion, suspicion and routine discrimination. It also criticised political and media rhetoric that it said has amplified tensions. Despite affirming their attachment to France’s republican values, many Muslims reported feeling increasingly marginalised throughout the year.
