More than 1,500 flights were canceled across France on July 3-4 due to a strike by French air traffic controllers, affecting nearly 300,000 passengers, according to Airlines for Europe (A4E). The industry group condemned the strike, which coincides with the busy summer travel period known as the Grand Départ.

Disruptions hit major airports, with half of flights canceled at Nice Airport and around a quarter at Paris Orly and Charles de Gaulle. The French civil aviation authority (DGAC) reported 933 flight cancellations on July 3 and noted that 272 controllers participated in the strike out of approximately 1,000 on duty.

Travelers expressed frustration, though some acknowledged workers’ rights to strike. A4E criticized the action, highlighting that French air traffic control already ranks among Europe’s worst for delays and warning that the strike will further disrupt holiday plans. The strike is expected to continue impacting flights as French school holidays approach, raising concerns over growing travel chaos during peak season.
