France Investigates Islamophobic Threats Against Mosque Near Paris

French authorities have launched an investigation after a mosque in Sucy-en-Brie, 15 km from Paris, received violent Islamophobic threats via voicemail, Morocco World News reported. The caller threatened to “slit [Muslims’] throats” and used derogatory slurs, according to Le Parisien. Driss Soussi, head of the local Muslim association, reported the incident, leading to the arrest of a suspect who later confessed, claiming intoxication.

The threats follow the April murder of Aboubaker Cisse, 22, who was stabbed 40-50 times by Olivier A. during morning prayers at La Grand Combe mosque—a case Prime Minister François Bayrou explicitly condemned as Islamophobia. While police responded swiftly to the Sucy incident, the Muslim community remains alarmed amid rising anti-Muslim violence.

French officials remain divided on labeling such attacks as Islamophobic, though Bayrou recently challenged critics: “If murdering a praying man while insulting Allah isn’t hatred of Islam, what is?”
