French Interior Minister Condemns Rise in Islamophobic Attacks Targeting Mosques
France’s Interior Minister, Bruno Retailleau, has condemned the recent surge in Islamophobic attacks on mosques, labeling these acts as unacceptable, Turkiye Today revealed yesterday.
His remarks come in the wake of an attempted arson at the Assounna Mosque in northern France and a subsequent attack on the French-Turkish Saint-Usage association, which also houses a mosque.
Retailleau expressed his strong disapproval of Islamophobic actions, stating they have no place in French society. He extended his support to the affected communities, emphasizing that attacks on places of worship are cowardly and reflect a troubling trend of violence.
The Assounna Mosque faced an attempted arson on October 29, followed by another incident where a piglet carcass was thrown at its entrance. Authorities are investigating these incidents, although the identities of the attackers remain unknown. The mosque has previously been targeted, with anti-Muslim graffiti appearing on its walls in December 2023, raising concerns about increasing religious hostility in the region.
