Fears Grow Among French Muslims as Far-Right Eyes Victory in Elections

The far-right’s rise in France, led by Marine Le Pen’s National Rally, has left many of France’s six million Muslims feeling fearful and betrayed.

The radical party has been advocating anti-immigration policies criticized for being discriminatory and Islamophobic.

Despite winning 33.14% of votes, concerns among Muslims and immigrants grew about implementation of radical policies, like banning hijabs in public spaces.

Le Pen’s party has in effect demonized Muslim individuals who wear hijab and represent diverse ethnic backgrounds.

This stance as well as plans to sanction dual national job restrictions has sparked concerns among Muslim citizens, with some considering emigration.

Macron’s centrist alliance’s defeat in recent elections and the potential consequences of a far-right government, including increased police violence and discrimination, are worrying for many French citizens.
