UN and WMO Warn of Climate Emergency as 2015–2025 Marks Hottest Years on Record

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and UN Secretary-General António Guterres have declared that the planet is in a climate emergency, following record-breaking global temperatures over the past decade.
According to WMO data, 2015 to 2025 comprise the eleven hottest years on record, with 2025 ranking among the top three warmest individual years. Rising air and ocean temperatures, melting ice, and increased extreme weather events have contributed to widespread environmental and societal impacts.
Guterres emphasized that Earth is under unprecedented pressure, warning that the repeated occurrence of record-warm years signals a serious global crisis. He called for urgent, science-based international action to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Experts note that if current trends continue, there could be severe consequences for food security, water resources, and the livelihoods of millions worldwide, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated global measures.
