Sri Lanka and Indonesia have deployed their militaries to assist victims of floods that have killed more than 1,000 people across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia in recent days, The Guardian reported.

Millions have been affected by a combination of tropical cyclones and heavy monsoon rains, with at least 502 fatalities reported in Indonesia, 355 in Sri Lanka, 170 in Thailand, and three in Malaysia.

The scale of destruction in Sri Lanka is the worst since the 2004 tsunami, which killed around 31,000 people and left more than a million homeless. For Indonesia, the flooding represents the deadliest event since the 2018 earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi, which claimed over 2,000 lives.

Authorities in both countries continue rescue and relief operations, while military personnel have been mobilized to provide emergency assistance, clear debris, and support displaced populations.
