A rapidly spreading wildfire swept through more than 65,000 acres in south-central California over the weekend, injuring three people and forcing widespread evacuations, The Independent reports. The blaze, fueled by dry conditions and strong winds, has affected parts of Los Padres National Forest in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties since Friday. By Monday, the fire expanded by 15,000 acres and was only 3% contained.

Originating as several smaller fires along Highway 166—an area prone to roadside ignitions—the cause remains under investigation. One individual sustained serious burns, while two contractors were hospitalized following a vehicle rollover. Approximately 460 structures are currently threatened, prompting evacuation orders for hundreds of residents.

Over 1,000 firefighting personnel, including 50 engines and aircraft, are engaged in containment efforts. With high wind warnings and gusts expected through Monday, officials caution that the fire could spread further, potentially reaching areas recently affected by the Madre Fire. Authorities urge residents in affected zones to stay vigilant and comply with evacuation directives.
