Canada remembers Muslim family killed in Ontario’s Londodn terror attack
On the fourth anniversary of the London, Ontario truck attack that killed four members of the Afzaal family, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the incident as a “horrific act of terrorism.” Speaking at Eid al-Adha celebrations organized by the Islamic Society of Canada, Carney reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fighting religious hatred and Islamophobia.
He stressed that targeting innocent people because of their faith is indefensible and must be clearly recognized as terrorism. Carney added that remembering such tragedies is not only about mourning, but about reaffirming Canada’s rejection of hatred and its dedication to justice and the safety of minority communities.
The president of the Islamic Society of Canada echoed these sentiments, stating the attack exposed the real and persistent threat of Islamophobia in the country. He called for concrete actions to curb hate speech and prevent future attacks on Muslim communities.
