Canadian Police Charge Three in Murder of Sikh Separatist Leader

Canadian authorities have charged three Indian nationals in the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia last June, TRTWorld reported yesterday citing court documents.

Nijjar, 45, was shot dead outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, a Vancouver suburb with a large Sikh population.

“Canadian authorities were pursuing allegations linking Indian government agents to the murder of Nijjar, a Canadian citizen,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. However, New Delhi rejected Trudeau’s claim as “absurd.”

The news comes after the White House expressed concern about reported Indian intelligence involvement in assassination plots in Canada and the US. Canadian officials stated the investigation into Nijjar’s killing is still “an active police operation,” with the suspects kept under tight surveillance for months.
