7 Dead, 82 Missing After Landslide in Indonesia’s West Java Following Heavy Rain

At least seven people have died and 82 others are missing after a landslide struck the West Bandung region of West Java province in Indonesia, Reuters reported. The tragedy occurred after days of heavy rainfall in the area, Indonesia’s national disaster mitigation agency reported.
The landslide hit a village in the West Bandung area early on Saturday, with local officials saying the unstable terrain and persistent rain contributed to the disaster. Abdul Muhari, a spokesperson for the disaster agency, confirmed the casualty figures and said search and rescue teams would intensify efforts to locate the missing, though challenging weather conditions are complicating operations.
The Indonesian meteorological agency had earlier warned of extreme weather, including heavy rain across parts of West Java last week and into the weekend, heightening the risk of landslides and flooding in hilly regions.
Reports indicate that the landslide buried homes and infrastructure, and emergency responders are working to evacuate nearby areas at risk of further slides. Local officials have urged residents in vulnerable zones to remain alert as the rainy season continues.
This incident is the second major landslide in Java in recent months, following another in November 2025 that killed at least 11 people after consecutive days of heavy rain.
