Bangladesh Records Highest Single-Day Dengue Death Toll

Bangladesh has reported its highest single-day death toll from dengue fever this year, with six fatalities recorded on Thursday, bringing the total number of dengue-related deaths to 145.
According to a report from Xinhua, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) also confirmed 586 new infections in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. This raises the total number of cases of the mosquito-borne disease to 36,682 so far this year. The country’s health authorities have stated they are strengthening measures, including anti-larval operations, to curb the further spread of the disease. The report notes that the June-September monsoon period is the peak season for dengue fever in Bangladesh, which logged a record 1,705 deaths from the disease in 2023.
