Bangladesh Launches New Policy to Boost Halal Exports to Gulf and Asia
……………….

Bangladesh has introduced a new policy aimed at expanding its footprint in the global halal products market, aligning its production and certification processes with international standards. The initiative primarily targets export growth to Gulf countries and Southeast Asia, where millions of Bangladeshi expatriates reside, including in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Officials see this consumer base—estimated at nearly 10 million people—as a key market for Bangladeshi halal products. Private sector representatives have called for a strategic national plan, citing the success of non-Muslim-majority countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and Singapore in penetrating the global halal industry, which is projected to be worth $7.7 trillion by 2025 and could exceed $10 trillion by 2030.

In response to growing international demand for full compliance with halal standards, Bangladesh has taken steps to enhance its export credibility. A December meeting involving the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh, the Islamic Development Bank, and Malaysian partners led to plans for a comprehensive halal ecosystem. With over 1.9 billion Muslims worldwide, expected to reach 2.7 billion by 2050, the global halal market represents a major growth opportunity for Bangladesh’s export-driven economy.
