Bangladesh Prepares for Transitional Government Led by Muhammad Yunus

Bangladesh’s transitional government, headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, is set to be inaugurated on Thursday, according to army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman.

Yunus will lead a 15-member team, all sworn in late Thursday, following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India amid violent protests that resulted in around 400 deaths.

Yunus, returning from France, praised the “brave students” for their role in this “second victory day,” referring to the country’s annual celebration of independence. He called for calm and urged citizens to refrain from violence, stating, “Let us make the best use of our new victory.”

In a separate development, a tribunal in Dhaka acquitted Yunus and three officials of Grameen Telecom of labor law violations, further clearing the path for his leadership.

The transitional government aims to address the nation’s pressing demands for reform and stability in the wake of recent unrest.
