Scotland celebrates Imam Hussein Day with participation of people from different faiths
The Shia community in Scotland, United Kingdom, celebrated the Day of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, which marked on October 12 according to the country’s calendar.
The Shia followers of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, celebrate this day with a gathering of scholars, intellectuals, and activists from different religions, in memory of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his sacrifices for humanity.
The Ahlulbayt Foundation in Scotland hosted a joyous ceremony on this occasion, which is considered an official holiday, and was attended by a number of Christian priests, Jewish rabbis, and figures from different religions and sects.
The Foundation said in a statement, followed by Shia Waves Agency, that “the Day of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, is held to commemorate his great sacrifices that he made on Ashura, and what it represented as a just human struggle and carried the lofty human principles.”
It continued that “the world, at a time when it is facing challenges and difficulties, is in dire need to adhere to the goals of Imam Hussein’s Revolution and work to achieve justice, freedom, and happiness for humanity.”
The Foundation explained that “the ceremony was attended by a large gathering of scientists, clerics, and intellectuals from different Islamic and non-Islamic backgrounds, and two of the attendees lit one candle to signify unity and harmony.”
It stated that “the Edinburgh Candle Makers Foundation presented these candles as a gift to the members of the Shia community in Scotland reflecting their love for the Shias of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.”
It added that “the participants also had the honor of carrying the red flag of the Imam Hussein Shrine, which carries the phrase (Ya Hussein) in Arabic, as an expression of their love for His Exalted Satus.”
