Shia Muslims commemorate Mohsiniyyah week more seriously after emphasis of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi
The first week of the month of Rabi al-Awwal has been named as the week of commemorating Mohsin bin Ali (peace be upon them).
Accordingly, Shiites around the world mourn Mohsen, the unborn son of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and Sayyida Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon them).
During Mohsiniyyah week, which follows the mourning of Muharram and Safar, Shiites commemorate the attack on the “House of Revelation” and the martyrdom of Mohsin bin Ali, peace be upon them, by holding mourning Majalis.
These gatherings have started with the beginning of the month of Rabi al-Awwal and echo the emphasis of the Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi, who stressed that special mourning period should be held during Mohsiniyyah as a continuation of Azadari in Muharram and Safar.
In response to the words and directives of the Great Marja, many Hussainiyas, mourning houses, as well as centers and offices affiliated to His Eminence in all corners of the world have placed mourning sessions at the top of their agenda.
It should be noted that Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadegh al-Hosseini al-Shirazi delivered a speech on the martyrdom anniversary of the Holy Prophet on 28 of Safar al-Ahzan this year, and said: “The days of mourning for the Ahlul-Bayt (peace be upon them) continue until the 8th of Rabi al-Awwal, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan al-Askari (peace be upon him). In this regard, we follow the instructions given to us by the Infallible Imams, peace be upon them, that “Our Shiites rejoice for our joy, and mourn for our sorrow.” We are sad, and we all mourn this mourning season, and on the 9th of Rabi al-Awwal, which is Eid according to the words of the Infallibles, peace be upon them, we also take Eid on that day and rejoice in their happiness.”
His Eminence also emphasized that like many religious and Islamic rituals, Mohsiniyyah period does not need to be discussed in terms of whether it existed in the past or not, because Ahlul-Bayt say in hadith that it is necessary for them to state and establish the principles. Therefore, Mohsiniyyah period, like other rituals, meets Islamic principles.
It should be mentioned that only a few days after the martyrdom of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him and his family, and during the first days of the month of Rabi al-Awwal, hypocrites and usurpers of the Caliphate mounted a brutal attack on the house of Amir al-Mu’minin Ali and Lady Fatima, peace be upon them, resulting in the miscarriage and martyrdom of their unborn son, Mohsin, and that which led to Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her) suffering severe injuries leading to her martyrdom after a short while.
