This year, Shia Muslims in New Delhi and other cities of India participated in the mourning ceremony of Imam Hussain, peace be upon him.
Massive mourning and procession took place on the day of Ashura in New Delhi, and the mourners shed tears of mourning for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).
The Indian Shias who participated in this procession carried the Ashura banners and flags with them.
The mourning procession of Ashura day started in front of New Delhi’s Kashmiri Mosque, and the mourners chanted Noha and beat their chests in the streets.
Procession of Hosseini Ashura was also held in the village of Cholas Sadat, Uttar Pradesh, India, with the large presence of Hosseini mourners.
Cholas Sadat village, located about 40 km from New Delhi in Uttar Pradesh, is where most Indian Shia Muslims live. As the month of Muharram begins, the village wears black and becomes immersed in the mourning of Imam Hussain, peace be upon him.
Imam Hussain’s mourning ceremony is held in Cholas Sadat village day and night. These mourning ceremonies reach their peak on the day of Ashura and the mourners participate in the Ashura procession by appearing in the streets. This procession continues until late at night with chest beating and chanting Noha.
Also, thousands of Muslims gathered together for the Ashura Day procession in Kashmir.
The Ashura procession was held with special splendor this year in the city of Kashmir, which is under the control of India and where Azadari was banned since 1990.
Although mourning marches were not allowed in Kashmir since 1990, some small groups held rallies in Muharram, which in most cases ended in violence, and the security forces responded by firing tear gas and bullets.
It should be noted that huge processions of mourners in Lucknow and Hyderabad also displayed their loyalty to the Matam of the Master of the Martyrs on the Day of Ashura.
