Ramadan Campaign Launched to Support Islamic Education in Bulgaria’s Mosques
——————————
A national campaign titled “Ramadan for the Support of Islamic Education” has been relaunched in Bulgaria with the start of the holy month, aiming to strengthen religious education programs in mosques across the country and ensure the continuity of Qur’an memorization and Islamic studies for children and youth.
The Grand Mufti’s Office of Bulgaria said Islamic education, particularly Qur’an courses held in mosque-based classes, remains a central priority in its annual strategy. The institution emphasized that such programs play a key role in reinforcing religious identity, promoting ethical values among young people, and encouraging positive civic engagement within Bulgarian society.
According to organizers, the Ramadan campaign serves as the primary source of funding for these initiatives. Donations are directed toward curriculum development, teacher training, and covering operational expenses for mosque classes in cities and towns with significant Muslim populations.
Qur’an courses are conducted in two main phases each year: an 18-week winter term held on weekends and a two-month intensive summer program during school holidays. The summer session concludes with competitions progressing from the mosque level to national finals.
More than 10,000 children participate annually in the summer courses, reflecting sustained community engagement and support for Islamic education in Bulgaria.
