Glasgow Ahlulbayt Society Honors Muharram with Spiritual Gatherings
………………………….
The Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) Society in Glasgow, Scotland, marks the first ten days of Muharram with a series of diverse religious programs that bring together members of various Muslim communities. Each daily gathering starts with Quran recitations, followed by the recitation of Ziyarat of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
Sayyed Mohammed Al-Hakeem recites moving poetic verses that capture the tragedy of Karbala and move many attendees to tears. Guest speaker Sayyed Wasel Al-Hassan, who has come from Al-Ahsa, delivers lectures that explore the historical significance of Imam Hussein’s uprising and highlight its moral and educational lessons. He stresses the importance of embodying Imam Hussein’s noble ethics in daily life.
The commemorations also include traditional mourning rituals, with reciter Abdulhadi Al-Battan leading elegiac chants that fill the hall with an atmosphere of solemn reflection and shared grief. A separate hall is designated for women, who attend in large numbers, showing the shared devotion to the message of Ahlulbayt across different backgrounds.
Each evening ends with a communal dinner offered in the name of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), followed by congregational prayers led by Sayyed Wasel Al-Hassan, which reflect the spiritual depth and unity that this sacred occasion inspires.
