Grand Ayatollah Shirazi urges global observance of Imam al-Sadiq’s martyrdom anniversary

The Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, has called for the remembrance of the martyrdom of Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) to be observed as a global cultural tradition, emphasizing the importance of renewing grief and expressing sorrow over this great loss.
His remarks were shared in brief statements published on his official website as the days of remembrance for Imam al-Sadiq’s martyrdom begin. Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, is known for spreading the knowledge of Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) and founding the Ja’fari school of thought, which became a vital spiritual and intellectual source for the Islamic Ummah.
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi said, “We hope to all strive to revive the days commemorating the martyrdom of Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), to invest these days in mourning him, crying over his tragedy, and honoring his martyrdom. Let us seize this occasion to be true followers of the Ja’fari school by adhering to the teachings and guidance of Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him).”
In many occasions, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi has stressed that the commemorations of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them), particularly that of Imam al-Sadiq, should be seen as spiritual milestones. He advocates for turning these events into meaningful reflections and global cultural practices, highlighting their profound values and doctrinal messages.
The Supreme Religious Authority repeatedly stresses that these days are not merely historical anniversaries but are opportunities to strengthen religious awareness and draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the Ahlulbayt in their mission to uphold the divine religion.
