Brazilian convert recounts her story of embracing Shia Islam

Brazilian convert, Camila Celestino, shared the story of her conversion to the path of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, despite efforts to discredit this blessed school of thought by followers of extremist Wahhabi ideology in her country and around the world.

Speaking before attendees at the Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran, Celestino said she first learned about Islam and the history of Karbala around 12 years ago. She became deeply interested in the figure of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his eternal message, which eventually led her to embrace Shia Islam.

The Brazilian scholar noted that she has spent the past seven years in Iran studying Islamic sciences. Since then, she has worked diligently, alongside her husband, in promoting Islam to the Portuguese-speaking audience.

Celestino added that, given the Brazilian constitution’s allowance for freedom of religion, Muslims from all schools of thought are actively engaged in spreading awareness of their beliefs.

She emphasized that, fortunately, there is healthy unity and communication among the different Islamic schools in Brazil, despite attempts by Wahhabi extremists, backed by institutions in Saudi Arabia, to destroy this unity.

Celestino concluded that Rio de Janeiro annually hosts an international conference on religions to promote solidarity, friendship, and unity among all, and to educate people about different faiths.
