Thousands of Ahlulbayt followers participate in self-flagellation Husseini processions

In commemoration of Holy Ashura, thousands of Ahlulbayt followers took part today Monday (8th of Holy Muharram) in the Husseini “Bladed Zanjeel Ritual”, a self-flagellation ritual, in which chains with knives are hit on one’s back, on the Eighth of Muharram,

The Husseini mourners came from all over the world to participate in these Husseini processions, amid an atmosphere of sadness over the calamity of Holy Ashura.

The holy city of Karbala witnesses, every year, the participation of thousands of Shia in the self-flagellation rituals of Zanjeel and Tatbir.

The participants expressed their deep sorrow for this tragedy by using knives to inflict wounds and cuts on their bodies, as a sign of solidarity with the calamities that befell the family of the Prophet on the day of Ashura.

It is worth noting that this ritual reflects the deep connection of the believers with the Cause of Imam Hussain, peace be upon him, and expresses the feelings of grief and sorrow that overwhelm them whenever they remember this painful event that shook the Islamic world.
