Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Bashir al-Najafi calls on Shia Muslims to celebrate Eid al-Ghadir
Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Bashir al-Najafi has called on the followers of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, to celebrate and rejoice on the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir, the greatest Eid of God. This message was conveyed in a statement from al-Najafi’s office, as reported by the Shia News Agency.
In a statement published on his official website, Grand Ayatollah al-Najafi emphasized the importance of honoring this blessed day and urged all believers, particularly “the honourable servants of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and others,” who put significant effort into commemorating the rituals of the Master of Martyrs, to continue this spirit during Eid al-Ghadir.”
In explaining the significance of Eid al-Ghadir, Grand Ayatollah al-Najafi cited the words of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, referring to the Holy Prophet’s hadith: “May Allah have mercy on our Shia; they are created from the remnants of our clay and kneaded with the water of our loyalty. They grieve for our sorrow and rejoice for our joy.”
He added that this hadith reflects the deep connection between the Shia and their Imams, urging them to rejoice on the days of the Ahlulbayt”s joy just as they mourn on their days of sorrow, stressing the importance of translating this feeling into actions that enhance love and brotherhood in society.
Shia Muslims celebrate Eid al-Ghadir on the 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day when Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family, delivered the famous Ghadir Khumm sermon, in which he declared the wilaya of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, peace be upon him.
This blessed day is considered one of the most important holidays for Shia Muslims, celebrated with manifestations of joy and happiness, and regarded as a major religious and spiritual holiday.
