Scotland: Shia Society hosts important events to support women and achieve unity among Muslims
The Ahlulbayt Society in Scotland announced that it successfully hosted two important events over the past three days, emphasizing the teachings of Islam from the Prophet Muhammad and the Imams of guidance, peace be upon them, on understanding life and human societies.
The Society stated in a message posted on social media and received by Shia Waves Agency that “yesterday, they held a special symposium to mark International Women’s Day, in collaboration with the Edinburgh Interfaith Association.”
They continued by saying that “the symposium was attended by Rev. Sally Foster-Fulton, General Secretary of the Church of Scotland, Trishna Singh, Director of the Sikh Sanjog community, Shebna Kohli from the Edinburgh Hindu Association, and Professor Farhana Alawi from the Shia Muslim community.”
The participants shared their views on the challenges women face and their experiences in the workplace and religious community, aiming to empower them positively and provide the necessary support for them to take their rightful place.
Additionally, the Society organized a dialogue between members of the Shia and Sunni communities as part of a gathering hosted by the University of Edinburgh, with the goal of dispelling divisions, describing it as “an important historical occasion.”
They pointed out that “the dialogue brought together the President of the association, Mr. Ali Abbas Rizvi, and Sheikh Hasan Rabani from the Sunni community, discussing the differences and similarities between Shia and Sunni beliefs in an open and fraternal dialogue.”
The Society emphasized that “this dialogue is primarily aimed at achieving unity, cooperation, and solidarity among Muslims in the diaspora.”
