UN’s FAO: Nearly 18M people in Sudan threatened by ‘high levels’ of acute food insecurity

The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Friday said that 17.7 million people across Sudan are facing “high levels of acute food insecurity.”

According to the deputy FAO representative to Sudan, the most vulnerable populations are concentrated in states experiencing violence, especially in the tri-city area of Khartoum.

The UN official mentioned the ongoing conflict, escalating violence, low agricultural production, high food prices, climate shocks, and displacement as contributors to the food crisis.
