Former Somali refugee makes history by winning Minnesota mayoral election
Voters in the Minnesota city of St. Louis Park have elected Nadia Mohamed, a 27-year-old Somali-American, as the city’s first Black, first Somali, and first Muslim mayor.
Having grown up and lived in the city for 18 years, Mohamed becomes the first Somali mayor in American history elected directly by voters.
Her family immigrated to the US when she was just 10. She’s served as a council member in the city since 2020.
