UNICEF has expressed concern about the situation of needy children in the flooded areas of Pakistan one year after the devastating floods in this country, with millions of children still in need of emergency assistance with health, food and shelter.
On Friday, August 25, the United Nations Children’s Fund reported that eight million people, half of whom are children, continue to live in the flooded areas without access to safe water and enough food, adding that at least 173 million dollars are needed to help these victims.
Local reports confirm that about 100,000 people left their homes in the countryside of Punjab due to the fear of flooding.
In the past few days, concerns have escalated about the occurrence of devastating floods and further damage to the economic infrastructure in Pakistan.
These concerns have caused fear and anxiety in the Pakistani society as the damages caused in 2022 have not yet been compensated.
According to the UNICEF report, in 2022, as a result of flooding in Pakistan, 30,000 schools, 2,000 health centers, and 4,300 drinking water centers were destroyed.
UNICEF has urged the government of Pakistan and aid agencies to increase assistance to children and families by investing in basic social services.
