Hazara Shias in Afghanistan

The United Nations Mission in Afghanistan has published a new report saying that civilian casualties and attacks on Hazara Shiites have persisted since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, June 27, UNAMA’s Human Rights Division in Afghanistan published its report on ” Impact of Implanted Explosive Devices (IED) on Civilians”.

This report analyzes the figures of civilian casualties, including the casualties of attacks on Hazara Shiites in mosques, educational centers, roads, and transportation vehicles.

This report specifically mentions the attack on Hazara Shiite educational centers in the west of Kabul and the attack on Ashura mourners in 2022.

The Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission has expressed in a statement that since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan until May 30 of this year, 1095 civilians have been killed and 2,679 civilians have been injured.

It adds that civilian casualties from IEDs continue to be a significant concern in Afghanistan, characterized by an increase in attacks on places of worship and against Hazaras and Shiites.

The Office of the United Nations Deputy Mission in Afghanistan has described the attacks of the extremist Sunni group ISIS and other actors as the main factors in harming civilians in this country.
