Humanitarian circumstances deteriorate as Taliban continues ban on NGOs female employees
Experts and aid groups have said that Taliban’s ban on female employees working for NGOs continues to undermine attempts and efforts to help Afghan people living in deplorable humanitarian conditions.
Due to its essential services and in wake of the cold waves that hit Afghanistan, CARE International, a humanitarian organization with 900 staff members in Afghanistan — nearly 40% of whom are women — resumed suspended health and primary education programs by February, but several other programs remain suspended.
The ban has threatened the incomes of women who worked for those world organizations — many of whom are the oly breadwinners of their families.
Experts say the ban could also strain international donors’ willingness to fund humanitarian efforts just as the U.N. called for $4.6 billion in aid.
