The Indian electronic newspaper “Awaz Voice” published an editorial, in which it lauded one of the oldest and largest Islamic Hussainiyas in India, describing it as an “icon” of national unity among people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds.”
The newspaper said In its article, “The Hussainiya (Hooghly Imam Bara), located on the banks of the (Hooghly) River in the city of (Kolkata), is one of the largest Islamic Hussainiyas in India and the largest in the state of West Bengal.”
The article added that “the activity of this 200-year-old religious landmark reaches its climax during the days of Muharram al-Haram, when thousands of people from different religions flock to it on the seventh day of this month to commemorate the mourning ceremonies for the tragedy of Karbala in different ways according to the followers of each religion.”
