Activists circulated on Twitter, news of the Saudi regime’s arrest of the most prominent Shia preacher in Qatif, Sheikh Hassan Al-Khuwailidi, on flimsy charges.
Activist Alaa Hashem wrote on his Twitter account: “The Saudi regime arrested the most prominent Shia preacher in Qatif, Sheikh Hassan Al-Khuwailidi, after the regime forces stormed his house and destroyed his furniture.”
He added in another tweet, “The aim of arresting Islamic religious figures who influence Saudi society is to open the doors to moral corruption, low religious awareness, and promote forbidden relationships without deterrence.”
In a similar context, Saudi activists said that the Saudi government arrested human rights activist Muhammad Fahd Al-Qahtani, after completing his ten-year prison sentence.
It is noteworthy that Muhammad Fahd Muflih Al-Qahtani (born in 1965 or 1966) is a professor of economics and a Saudi political activist, and one of the founding members of the Association for Civil and Political Rights in Saudi Arabia.
On March 9, 2013, Al-Qahtani was sentenced to ten years in prison and a further 10-year travel ban after being convicted of several charges related to his human rights activities in what is known as a decisive trial.
