St. Paul Public Schools, Fairfield School add Eid al-Fitr to school calendar
Last week, the St. Paul school board in Minnesota voted to add Eid al-Fitr to the district’s academic calendar. Students will not have class on any of the dates. Also last week, the Board of Education of Fairfield, Conn., decided to add Eid al-Fitr to the school district’s calendar.
“All students deserve to have their religious beliefs and holidays respected by educators,” said CAIR-Minnesota Executive Director Jaylani Hussein. “We thank the St. Paul school district for recognizing the religious holidays of their students.”
“Because of the Fairfield Board of Education’s decision, Muslim students can celebrate their holiday with family without having to miss instruction,” said CAIR-Connecticut Operations Director Hassan Awad. “We are pleased to see Fairfield Public Schools supporting their Muslim students by recognizing the Eid al-Fitr holiday.”
