Int’l Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict

The General Assembly, in 2001, proclaimed 6 November of each year as the International Day for the Prevention of the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Military Conflict.

Although people always count the losses of wars with the number of dead and wounded among soldiers and civilians, and the destroyed cities and means of life, the environment remains, in many cases, an undeclared victim of wars.

Water wells have been polluted, crops have been burned, forests have been cut down, soils have been poisoned, and animals have been killed for military advantage.
