Restoration of six-part Quran dating back to the thirteenth century AH

The Al-Fadhl Center for the Restoration and Preservation of the Manuscript Heritage and the Documentary Archive at al-Abbas Holy Shrine supervised the restoration of a Quran dating back to the thirteenth century AH.

The director of the center, Laith Lutfi, said that “the Quran consists of six parts, and restoration operations have begun with a biological and chemical examination. The manuscripts that contain many colors, inks and decorations have been carefully examined to determine the type of leather and paper used in them.”

Regarding the details of the restoration process, Lutfi explained that “modern technical devices and some natural chemicals for the manufacture and restoration of leather had a major role in restoring the manuscripts to their previous state,” noting that “the work continued for about three months, which included writing reports and photographing.”
