UN envoy to Afghanistan calls for committee to investigate genocide against Hazaras

The United Nations envoy to Afghanistan, Nasir Ahmad Faeq, called for the formation of a commission to investigate and report on targeted attacks against Shia Hazaras, which he described as “acts of genocide.”

Khama Press reported, in details followed by Shia Waves News Agency, that the UN envoy, while speaking at the Committee on Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs of the United Nations General Assembly, accused the Taliban of being unable to establish security so far.

Faeq’s statement came in the wake of the bloody attack on the Kaj Education Center in the Afghan capital, which killed dozens of Afghan Shias, while expressing his concern about “targeting Shia Hazara children.”

“The fact-finding commission will be able to look into and report on all grave human rights violations, such as the Hazara genocide, forced migration, and the extrajudicial killing of people without a fair trial,” he explained.

Among the grave violations of human rights, according to him, are “extrajudicial killings, torture, cruel treatment, and arbitrary arrests of former security forces, journalists, and human rights defenders.”

The Afghan representative also highlighted the Taliban’s “hostility” to Afghan women and described the situation as worrying.
